Yeah, probably my own fault for picking an early show of a biggie (must admit to my own geeky moments too but I just have them quietly in my head!). Yours is a really great city though. Can't wait to get back for a proper holiday where I actually don't have to go and talk science for significant portions of the day. I loved Chicago as much as Vancouver (which is great praise from me because Vancouver is where I absolutely would live given free range to live anywhere). People were just brilliant too.

Luckily that cheering at the movie theaters tends to be reserved for big movies (like Watchmen) and even then usually only in the early days of the release. A good reason to wait a couple of weeks before seeing a movie like that. Although I'm born and bred in the USA, that drives me crazy as well. Actually, it even drives me crazy when people clap at the end of the movie. Hello, unless you're at the premiere, the actors can't hear you, so what's the point?

Hi!

I am a big fan of your blog, and I'm hoping that you'll be willing to participate in a new feature on Kittling: Books.

"Scene of the Blog" will be posted monthly and will feature a photograph of where bloggers do all the wonderful work that fills my Google Reader daily. I love to see bloggers' work spaces, and I know I'm not the only one!

If you want to participate, please send a photo of your blogging work space to me. (File size doesn't matter. I can always adjust it.) Writing a short description (or anything else you'd like to say about the space) is optional, but I'm sure readers will enjoy it.

(The series on the Guardian's website that inspired me is here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/series/writersrooms.)

I really hope that you'll participate, but if you're not interested, I totally understand. I'd just appreciate an email in reply, one way or the other.

Thanks!

Banning anything is a difficult issue. I've been increasingly concerned about the various internet filtering proposals that are being mooted at the moment. What one person finds deeply offensive might be nor more than mildly irritating to another. The issue that flung the UK's internet filtering into the spotlight was the great Internet Watch Foundation vs the LP sleeve debacle.
In re-reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, one of the things that comes across is the huge cultural vacuum that is established when wholesale cultural censorship is in force.
Just went off to look at the banned books library, but LibraryThing is down again!

If they were more affordable, I think I'd be all over a Sony Reader (prettier than a Kindle). I've started using the library's ebook service, so having a dedicated reader would be handy for that.
